what is the effect of a personal injury payment of £2800 on means tested benefits and housing benefit?

ive heard the savings limit for somebody on means tested benefit is £6000 and a sliding scale to £16000 ,if i only have capital of £2800 does this affect benefits and does a personal injury payment count as capital or something else? please advise.

It’s not the savings themselves that affect benefits but the interest gained on the savings. Interest on savings is classed as income this is why it affect peoples benefits. Any savings or sums of money under £6000 is not taken into account at all when calculating benefits so your £2800 will have no affect on anything you receive. Enjoy the extra money

As you say, personal savings do come into account when claiming benefits
but I’m sure your amount is below the cut-off point
I don’t think you’ll have too much to worry about there, it’s not as if it’s a life changing amount. Probably not enough for the injury you suffered, lol
