what is the effect of a personal injury payment of £2800 on means tested benefits and housing benefit?

ive heard the savings limit for somebody on means tested benefit is £6000 and a sliding scale to £16000 ,if i only have capital of £2800 does this affect benefits and does a personal injury payment count as capital or something else? please advise.
